To the editor:
The 59th Annual Fort Myers Beach Lion's Club Shrimp Festival Parade and Pageant will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 11 and 12! This is the biggest event of the year for Fort Myers Beach! This is a weekend where the Fort Myers Beach residents and Lee County locals celebrate together pride of our local shrimping industry. Tourists come from all over to be a part of this island tradition. Anyone growing up in Lee County knows someone in the shrimping industry! It's such an exciting historical event!
Parade, variety of vendors, princesses, a Queen, and the delicious - big - locally caught - wild American pink shrimp! It's just a wonderful, fun time for the whole family! It's a great weekend for everyone to visit our local shops and restaurants on the island too! Plan your stay at one of the island's awesome resorts, or a bed and breakfast, or stay at one of the cool, quaint motels/inns on the island. Ride personal watercraft, rent boats, fly high in the sky on a parasail ride, cool off at the Bay Oaks Community Pool (which has a slide and a kiddie area for the little ones), or take the kids to the Bay Oaks Recreational Center. There is just so much to do it's impossible to list everything!
This is the last announcement for young ladies to enter the Shrimp Festival Queen Pageant and ride atop a gorgeous Corvette convertible in the parade and for sponsors to enter a princess. This year's Princess Sunday Social will be hosted by the Yucatan Restaurant on Old San Carlos (which has several great shrimp dishes) and the Princess Meet & Greet will be hosted by Bonita Bill's Waterfront Cafe Event Hall. The Shrimp Queen pageant has many opportunities for young ladies to win awards, a college scholarship, princess gift bags, receive community service hours for school, be a Shrimp Festival Princess, and possibly Shrimp Festival QUEEN and most importantly support the Fort Myers Beach Lion's Club to continue its mission helping others in need.
