Every summer, the Sewing Boutique, at the Hancock Bridge Square Shopping Plaza, invites kids to come for a week's worth of sewing and fun.

That tradition will continue this summer with two kids camps and a Teen Design camp that will take place in June and July.

The kids' camps will happen June 11 to 15 and from July 16 to 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for kids ages 8 through 12. The teen camps, for those age 13 through 17, will happen from July 9 through 13 at the same times.

The kids camp theme will be "Sewing Around the World," and creating unique projects from different countries and cultures. The cost is $250 for the week along with the teen camp. All supplies will be included and some of the top sewing talent in the area will be there to help.

"The kid will learn techniques and a little history about a certain country every day," said Wendy Fahl, owner of the Sewing Boutique. "The teen camp will be about gear and gearwear like backpacks or wallets that they will get to design from scratch."

Fahl started the kids camp about 15 years ago and has managed to fill them every year. The teen camp started last year, with two students, both males.

Fahl said this is not a play camp, that they really have to put in work., but they will be directed in an area they will be interested in, which could result in them learning a trade.

Heather Clough will teach the youth while Jackie Peppi, a graduate at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, will teach the design camp.

"The kids have a very good time and we include in our fee all the materials and supplies, so parents don't have to scurry around and buy anything. They just have to pack a lunch and bring their own sewing machine, if possible," Fahl said. "It's a good way for them to find out what they like."
