Lest history repeat

To the editor:

I sat with my morning coffee and wondered if this was how everyday Germans felt during the World War II era.

I remember the disbelief that they could not have know about the concentration camps when there were ashes from the crematoriums falling on their towns.

Now I know.

Instead of ashes, we have news outlets, tweets and posts telling us our government is torturing families to advance its political position. Using children as living pawns. The rhetoric is hateful and divisive: designed to get us to allow this despicable, inhumane, power-grabbing course of action. Finger pointing and bigotry reign while actual children and their families are suffering.

Picture ICE Agents and the SS lining up the flow of people. Men to the right. Women to the left. Children to the center. Personal possessions and religious articles confiscated. Individuals seeking to claim the children will be fingerprinted and, we can imagine, put at risk for more immoral treatment by our government.Well, what was true then is still true today.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." -Edmund Burke

It is more than time for everyday Americans to put a stop this sickening repeat of history.
