Sun Country holds grand opening at new location
October 17, 2018

Sun Country Homes can trace its roots back to the 1950s, and now the company is looking ahead to the future with a new location.

The company recently held a ribbon cutting and grand opening/anniversary celebration at its offices at 787 Pondella Road.

The North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce held the ribbon cutting for the company on Sept. 25; they actually moved there in May, said owner Marion Briggs.

Sun Country history dates back to when Briggs' father, Chum Hunt, came here from Michigan to build homes in the '50s.

In 1973, he started Sun Country Homes.

The realty arm of the company came in 1997 to complement the construction business. When Briggs took over the offices, they were at 1207 Pondella Circle, which was home for 22 years.

The company still builds and sells custom homes, with some commercial work and remodeling here and there.

"Our main focus are custom homes and affordable homes. We also have a great bunch of Realtors for our real estate team," Briggs said. "I opened that up when I started at the old location. I've had a real estate license since I was 20 and my father suggested I open my own company and the bell went off."

The new building is easier to access and is much more welcoming than the old one, which was aging and no longer adequate, Briggs said. The new place also provides an example of what they can do with a home, as evidenced by their kitchen.

"It's closer to the main road, but it's also a cleaner, more aesthetically pleasing location. We had a big fence at the other place and it didn't seem like a real estate office," Briggs said. "I wanted to give my team a modern office that's bright and a pleasure to work in."

The new location is also the temporary home of the Lee County Arts Center, where the organization conducts its monthly meetings.

Sun Country Homes is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more info, call 995-5001 or go to
