Corbett Road will be closed for construction for a five days beginning next week.

"Corbett Road will be closed to through traffic north of Diplomat Parkway to just south of Littleton Road from about 5 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, until Tuesday, Nov. 20, for roadway improvements performed by a contractor for the Lee County Department of Transportation," a release from the county states.

The work will include reconstruction of approximately 0.9-mile stretch of existing two-lane roadway, miscellaneous milling/paving and the addition of a two-foot stabilized shoulder on both sides of the roadway, according to Vince Miller, senior engineer with the Lee County DOT, in an e-mail.

"Local residents will have access from Littleton Road. Access to the Lee County VA Healthcare Center and Army Reserve Training Center will be maintained from Diplomat Parkway," the release. "Other motorists are encouraged to see alternate routes. Signs and message boards will be in place to notify motorists.

"Although the closure is not slated to happen until Nov. 15, work on the roadway was scheduled to begin Monday, with periodic single-lane closures with flag operators controlling traffic from about 7 a.m. to about 7 p.m.

"Single-lane closures will continue after Corbett Lane reopens to through traffic until all work is complete by the end of the year.

The balance of the construction duration will utilize standard maintenance of traffic with minimal daytime lane closures, Miller said.

"The completed improvements will result in Corbett Lane having two eleven-foot-wide lanes with two-foot paved shoulders. The closure will permit the work to be expedited and minimize the impact to motorists."

The project has a 210-day construction period and is due to be completed by the end of February. Actual construction time may vary, Miller said.

This project is adjacent to the Kismet Parkway - Littleton Road Realignment. It is not part of that project, Miller said.
