As president of the North Fort Myers Civic Association, I am saddened to pass on to the readers of this column and to those in our community the recent passing of North Fort Myers Civic Association Board of Directors member Mark Lipton. Since he was elected a civic board member, Mark was responsible for writing this column concerning community civic issues for the North Fort Myers Civic Association. He began in March of 2018.

Mark's recent passing has left all of us who knew Mark feeling a deep sense of loss not only for ourselves, but for our association, and our entire community as well. Mark will be deeply missed by those of us who knew him as a truly kind, decent, and honorable man. Thank you, Mark Lipton, for all that you have done for the North Fort Myers Civic Association, The Lee County Arts Center of North Fort Myers, and your true dedication to the betterment of North Fort Myers. You will be truly missed.

In Mark's spirit and as Mark would say to me, "Let's move ahead and let's get this job done" we shall honor Mark's memory with those words, not only for this column but for the 2019 year that lies ahead for the North Fort Myers Civic Association.

The North Fort Myers Civic Association's 2018 year was one of many positive changes for our association. The North Fort Myers Civic Association laid the ground work for 2019 and is now ready to expand upon the new foundation that has been set by a dedicated team of men and women who serve on the Board of Directors, as well as those members who attend meetings and events regularly to help in the betterment of our community.

Our major fundraising event the North Fort Myers Civic Association / Signarama North / All-American Printing Wiffle Ball Bash is only a couple weeks away and is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9 and 10, and will be held at the North Fort Myers Recreation Center Football Field.

The Saturday event time is 9 a.m. 4 p.m. and Sunday's action will begin at noon and last until 4 p.m. You can join our Facebook group at "North Fort Myers Civic Association" or go to our website at NFMCIVIC.COM for detailed information on how to enter a team, or just come out to watch.

Hooters Restaurants of South Florida will also sponsor up to 40 kids age 5-12 to play on a specially-designed junior field at no cost to the kids. Just go to our website click on the "contact us" link and send us your child's name and age along with a parent's name and contact e-mail. It's that simple.

To this date even before play has taken place at the 2019 Wiffle Ball Bash, the Wiffle Ball Bash has become the North Fort Myers Civic Association's leading fundraiser of all-time.

This event is just the beginning of a great 2019 that lies ahead for the North Fort Myers Civic Association.

There will be many more fundraising events such as a Flap Jack Breakfast in March, another North Fort Myers Community Night with the Fort Myers Miracle in April, as well as other fundraising events that are currently in the works. With the success of each fundraising event, the North Fort Myers Civic Association will be able to give back to North Fort Myers in ways never seen by the association and the community.

Our annual town hall meeting will also take place in the very near future to keep you apprised and updated of issues concerning our community.

So, as Mark would say "Let's move ahead and let's get this job done" we move forward into 2019 and work on getting the job done of enriching our community in true North Fort Myers style. That of hard work, dedication, and caring for our community.

Come Join us at NFMCIVIC.COM and let's enjoy it together. Mark our words, 2019 will be one to remember.

RIP Mark Lipton; thanks for your service.
